“Volcán Burbujeante” is a playful take on functional ceramics. When my mother asked me to make her a vase, I happily agreed. Instead of glazing the piece with something I knew would turn out well, I dipped the top in some mystery bucket of goo sitting in the back of the art room. Thankfully, it created a beautiful flux effect which I believe resembles a “Volcán Burbujeante” or “Bubbly Volcano." I named the piece in Spanish as an homage to my mother and the place where I grew up (Monte Verde, Costa Rica).
